For 29 years, the annual Unity in the Community festival has been providing an opportunity for Spokane
citizens to get to know and appreciate more about what makes each of us unique. The foundation of the
event is embracing and celebrating diversity through the various acts on the main stage and through the
Cultural Villages where children can learn more about culture and traditions. Now, more than ever, it is
important to come together as a community to show support for one another while enjoying the
activities with our families. Join us on Saturday, August 12, 2021, kicking off at 10:00 am at Spokane
Riverfront Park until 4:00 pm.
In partnership with STCU, NW Unity and a team of dedicated volunteers work hard to design this event
to promote unity and inclusion. For UIC members, it is important to focus on bringing the community
together to celebrate all the things that unite us rather than divide us, which is so well represented in
this year’s theme, “NW Unity. Stronger Together”. Over the years the organizers of UIC have collected
and donated more than 1,200 bags of school supplies for children in our community and have given
away over 150 bicycle helmets. This year, we will give out children’s books that highlight the triumphs
of all Americans, including those whose contributions are often overlooked. Once again, we invite
everyone, kids and adults alike, to visit the Cultural Village and take an imaginary trip to another land,
maybe even learn a phrase or two in another language.
The festival also features a health, youth, career/ education fair, as well as booths from different
agencies and community resources. The youth area is very popular with attendees, and the Senior Area
will provide information and resources to our seniors. We are grateful for our many sponsors that help
make our event possible.
We would also like to thank our area sponsors: Spokane NAACP, CHAS, Community Health Plan of WA,
Washington Health Benefit Exchange and Premera Blue Cross along with many Gold and Platinum
Corporate Sponsors.
